Become a Tumbleweeds Family Sponsor

Tumbleweeds Film Festival is for kids and those young at heart who love stories, brave and funny protagonists, and opportunities to learn something new.

It’s a community festival made possible by local donors like you who support the festival as family sponsors. Your gift helps the festival to remain low cost for Utah kids and their families. With your financial support, you help Utah Film Center offer films from around the world and the US, interactive activities from local arts organizations, and workshops in film and media-making!

Family Sponsors

Our Tumbleweeds Family Sponsor package is designed for families in Utah who want to access all the benefits that this film festival has to offer, while supporting the event for the whole community!

LEGACY FAMILY SPONSORS

Our Tumbleweeds Legacy Family Sponsor donation package is designed for families or individuals who may have aged out of the festival, but still want to ensure that the festival remains accessible, vibrant, and educational for all youth in Utah.

For $200, you help support children in your community in their exploration of art, technology, film, and more!

FILMS

At the 2025 Tumbleweeds Film Festival in April, we are excited to show 15 films — 10 shorts and 5 features. Thanks to a wonderful sponsorship with the Salt Lake County Library System, we are able to offer the films to all attendees for free!

However, there are still hard costs associated with bringing independent film to our community. Did you know that the average licensing and labor cost for a Tumbleweeds feature film is around $700, and the average cost for a short is $350? Licensing costs are what we pay outright for the film, and labor costs include captioning, file integration, projection and AV techs on site, etc.

As a nonprofit Film Center, artist support is of utmost importance to us, and it has always been a priority to pay these fees to independent film teams. By becoming a Family or Legacy Sponsor, your financial support helps support these projects and bring them to Utah youth to engage and inspire them in worlds they cannot see onscreen everyday.

“Exposing kids to quality films they would not otherwise think to attend and providing them with high-quality workshops supports Utah’s next generation of not only filmmakers, but educated, informed, and creative thinkers.”

WORKSHOPS

This year, Utah Film Center is proudly hosting 8 different media arts education workshops! Although our workshops only cost $25 for participants, there are other costs to the Utah Film Center to ensure these programs, including instructor fees and necessary equipment.

Becoming a Family or Legacy Sponsor helps ensure the vitality of each one. With your help, kids can explore:

  • Character Design For Animation, taught by professional animators at Spacestation Animation, this workshop illuminates the importance and how-to of unique character creation,
  • Special Effects Makeup For Beginners, a hands-on workshop that explores how to create convincing special-effects makeup with things around the house,
  • Stop Motion Animation, taught by fellow non-profit Spy Hop, which turns your storyboard to life with Lego figurine animation tips and tricks,
  • And much more!

Tumbleweeds workshops instill readiness, passion, and confidence in kids interested in pursuing a career in the media arts. We strive to demystify the process of becoming artistically and technically literate, in a welcoming and ethics-based environment.

My 10-year-old has NOT STOPPED making stop-motion animation on his tablet since he took your workshop. Now he wants to take more of these types of workshops. This has opened a whole other creative avenue for him!”

FIELD TRIPS FOR SCHOOLS

We also offer a FREE festival field trip program which runs through the Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday leading up to the Saturday public festival on April 25th! These field trips cater to various school districts from around the community, engaging youth in a real-life film festival experience, designed for them! Students watch films, participate in educational Q&A’s, and even get to walk a red carpet! Teachers are equipped with film study guides and helpful lesson plan resources, to continue the learning that takes place on-site, into the classroom.

But, did you know that the largest barrier to field trip attendance for many schools is the cost of transportation? That’s why Tumbleweeds offers a bus reimbursement program!

While the average reimbursement cost is around $360, for buses designed to accommodate special education classroom accessibility needs, it can run up to $1,000. If you join us as a Family or Legacy Sponsor, your support can help guarantee that all students and teachers, regardless of location, are able to benefit from these immersive field trip opportunities.

“It was incredible to hear the emotional responses of the students and how quickly they developed empathy for the heroes in each story. I thought your key themes of problem solving, kindness and resiliency were beautifully demonstrated.”
